An Introduction to DIR®/Floortime for Parents

A Workshop with Live Mentoring Sessions Sponsored by The Astra Foundation and the Sharon Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SSEPAC)

In this workshop, you will learn about DIR® techniques that emphasize the relationship between parent and child as the foundation for learning. We will explore how play can deepen our insight into a child's world to support his or her emotional connections and growth. The workshop is suitable for parents of children with issues of regulation, behavior, communication or developmental delays.

The individualized mentoring sessions, held in the sensory gym, will tightly couple theory and practice, helping you to foster your child's development.

We will discuss child development, watch videotapes and play with children while learning Floortime techniques to help your child:
  • Improve attention;
  • Engage with you more strongly;
  • Be more calm and organized;
  • Communicate more effectively;
  • Play with more complexity;
  • Understand themselves and others.
