Call Your MA Legislator! Continue Funding for Safe and Supportive Schools

We Need Your Help

Dear friends of MAC,

We write today to ask you to please call or email your state legislators as soon as possible to ensure that funding for the Safe and Supportive Schools is included in the state budget.

The House budget includes $200,000 for line item 7061-9612, which would fund the Safe and Supportive Schools Grant Program. Unfortunately, the Senate budget does not include this funding. The Conference Committee process will determine whether the House's funding for line item 7061-9612 will stand.

Please ask your state legislators to include in their "priorities" letters to the Conference Committee a request that the conferees support the inclusion of House line item 7061-9612 for $200,000 in the Conference Committee budget. A script for calls or emails is provided below.

Here is a link to find the contact information for your state legislators.

Dear Senator/Representative __________________,

I am your constituent and reside at ____________________. I am writing to ask that you please include in your "priorities" letter to the Conference Committee a request that the conferees support the inclusion of House line item 7061-9612, which would appropriate $200,000 for a pilot grant program for Safe and Supportive Schools.

Schools that receive funding through this program will utilize the innovative Safe and Supportive Schools Framework and its accompanying online self-assessment tool to create school wide Safe and Supportive School Action Plans. This will allow them to serve as models in creating safe and supportive learning environments that enable all children to learn.

This grant program was recommended to the legislature by the Behavioral Health and Public Schools Task Force, established pursuant to section 19 of chapter 321 of the acts of 2008.

Thank you for your support of this important step forward to help all schools in Massachusetts become safe and supportive learning environments for the children of our Commonwealth.
