The Crash Reel

The ride of a lifetime – U.S. champion snowboarder Kevin Pearce was set to compete against rival Shaun White in the 2010 Olympics until a horrible training accident left Kevin with a traumatic brain injury.
Kevin luckily survives, but he struggles coming to terms with his brain injury. He wants to continue his snowboarding career despite the objections from his family and doctors that another crash could kill him.

Followed by a panel discussion on Traumatic Brain Injury.

Life. Support. Music.

Jason Crigler was an up-and-coming guitarist in the NYC music scene when suddenly he suffered a brain hemorrhage while performing on stage. The doctors’ prognosis was, “If he makes it through the night, there won’t be much left of him.” Despite this, Jason’s pregnant wife, Monica, and the rest of his family believed that Jason was still with them and knew he would recover.

Followed by a panel discussion about Acquired Brain Injury with special guests Jason Crigler, Marjorie Crigler, and director Eric Daniel Metzgar.

Shorts

No Quit: Filmmaker Tim O’Donnell captures the story of his father’s traumatic brain injury. Tim’s father, Tod O’Donnell, often used the motto, “no quit,” to motivate his children. The expression becomes the rally cry for Tod’s own rehabilitation.

Jill Bolte Taylor’s TED Talk, My Stroke of Insight: Using humor and science, brain scientist Jill Bolte Taylor recounts how she felt during her own stroke as her brain functions shut down one by one.

A Hit on the Head and Where It Led: An animated short about a boy who has a traumatic brain injury from a bike accident and how he deals with his injury while growing up. Based on a true story.
