Deep Relaxation with Hannah Gould: A Summer Series for Parents and Caretakers

From NESCA

June 6, 2014

Parenting is hard work! Leave the kids at home and treat yourself to this series of 6 blissful Tuesday evenings at NESCA with Hannah Gould, M.Ed, RYT.

Experience the benefits of deep relaxation and return home feeling refreshed and recharged.

Sessions will include:
  • Mindfulness and meditation exercises
  • Pranayama: Yoga breathing techniques to calm the nervous system
  • Restorative yoga poses: supported poses that allow deeply held patterns of tension to release; no yoga experience is required, and absolutely no hard work is involved!
  • Yoga Nidra: Yoga Nidra means “yoga sleep”. It is a form of guided relaxation done while lying down and resting. Yoga Nidra requires no effort or skill, and it even works if you fall asleep! Each session will conclude with a 30 – 45 minute Yoga Nidra session.
When:   6:45 - 8:00pm Tuesdays, July 11 – August 15

Where: NESCA, 55 Chapel St., 2nd Floor
                   Newton, MA 02458

Cost:    $150 for the 6 week series or $250 per couple

Limited to 8 participants; please register soon! Enrollment for the full 6 weeks is required to hold your space. To enroll, please call Amanda at 617-658-9800 or email arenzi@nesca-newton.com.

NESCA Therapeutic Yoga Services

Millions of people around the world practice yoga for its physical and emotional benefits, and to seek a peaceful respite from the busy modern world. Backed by a growing body of research, yoga is increasingly expanding its reach beyond studios and health clubs into classrooms and clinical settings.

Now also scheduling summer sessions for students with
Ann-Noelle McCowan, M.S. and Laura McEvoy, M.Ed.

Yoga, meditation and other mindfulness-based practices are gaining recognition as effective treatments for conditions such as Attention Deficit Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorders, anxiety and depression. Perhaps prominent Duke University Psychiatrist P. Murali Doraiswamy summed it up best when he stated “If there was a drug that could mimic the effects of yoga, it would probably be the world’s best-selling drug.”

The body of research supporting this approach is growing every day. Ask us for copies of, or links to some excellent articles on the therapeutic benefits of yoga practice.

The yoga/ mindfulness approach to treatment is:
  • Holistic: Promoting general physical and emotional health, rather than narrowly treating specific symptoms;
  • Safe: Free from negative side effects;
  • Enduring: Benefits have been shown to be long-term, not transient as with many medications;
  • Empowering: Participants gain insights into their own physiological states and emotional experiences, and learn strategies to increase their own success and well-being.

At the cutting edge of this treatment revolution, NESCA has provided therapeutic yoga services to children for the past several years, with excellent results.

The NESCA yoga program is rooted in the belief that self-awareness and self-regulation skills are essential foundations of success and general well-being in all settings. Therapeutic yoga sessions incorporate mindful movement, breathing exercises, relaxation, and meditation techniques.

Sessions are designed to work with the learning style of each individual child and to be appropriately engaging and fun in order to promote active participation.

For more information or to schedule an initial intake session, please contact Hannah Gould, M.Ed., RYT at 617-658-9823 or hgould@nesca-newton.com.
